GMI celebrates 10 years at the forefront of plant biology
To mark this significant milestone, the GMI held an anniversary celebration, attended by the Austrian Minister for Science and Research, Karlheinz Töchterle, the President of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, Helmut Denk, members of Vienna’s research community and GMI staff. The event comprised a mini-symposium including talks from three internationally recognized leaders in plant biology, followed by a formal ceremony and birthday reception.
The GMI was founded by the Austrian Academy of Sciences in 2000 to promote research excellence in the area of plant molecular biology. It is the only international center for basic plant research in Austria. Over the past decade the GMI has grown from a fledgling institute located across Vienna to a world-class research center occupying state-of-the-art facilities at the Vienna Biocenter Campus in Vienna’s third district. During that time the GMI has made significant contributions to the field of plant biology.
