Scientific Visualization

Gregor Mendel Institute

The Scientific Visualization unit performs research and provides support for other GMI units in the areas of processing, analysis, modeling and visualization of discrete two- and three-dimensional raster data:

Processing of photographic and microscopic images and their temporal and spatial sequences

  • segmentation, interactive segmentation of volumetric data, hierarchical segmentation by the watershed transform, streamed processing of large volume data

Volume graphics and 3D object modeling

  • object representation by distance fields, voxelization of geometric objects, implicit and volumetric modeling of biological structures

Visualization of volumetric data

  • surface and volume rendering techniques, ray tracing algorithms in volume graphics, hardware acceleration in volume visualization
